  • Fallujah

    While my son came home safely from Fallujah in Sept 2007,  I just found out another young Marine is headed to Fallujah shortly. I wrote this note of encouragement to his mom, my kindred PMM:

    While my heart skips a beat and my breath catches over this news, my soul seeks rest in what a mighty God we serve: He is always gracious, ever kind, and utterly full of compassion. He is loving and powerful, just and beneficent, warrior and shepherd, and His heart is always toward His children. It is this God to whom we entrust your son's care, and your heart.

    From one mother of a Marine to another...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    To all those who serve: Thank you and may you see and feel the rich benediction of our "God with us" God where ever you serve.
    To all those who stand behind those who serve: may you feel God's sure embrace in every breath you breathe.
  • All in the family...
    Spent some time at the Elizabethtown Fair tonight: enjoyed the petting zoo (sheep, cows, goats, and my all-time favorite: alpacas).  Saw lots more animals and various displays (collected pens, calendars, little notepads, etc).
    But the display area I connected with most was one for The United States Marine Corps.  All 4 of us were wearing our USMC sweatshirts, and introduced ourselves, saying "we have a son in Iraq right now." The immediate response was, "we're praying for him!" We were invited to take whatever we wanted off the display table "because," we were told by the Marine there, "you are part of the Family."  Grandma and Grandpa were enthusiastically invited to take water-bottles, bumper stickers, window decals, etc. because they too are "part of the Family."
    We saw a USMC Hummer, and talked about how the one there (complete with speakers, key ignition, cloth seats, etc) differs from the ones over in Iraq (no key, no cloth, no radio, etc). We were assured with quiet sincerity again, "we are praying for your son."  We thanked them and went on our way.
    After walking around the Fair Grounds for a while, we ended up back in that corner where I purposely stopped once again. Seeing the man in his camouflage fatigues who had assured us of their prayers, I approached him,  "...Since I can't hug my son..... um, can I hug you?"  With open arms he said, "Sure!!" and gave me a hug that was solid and assuring, bringing on a bout of tears I haven't cried since Daniel left over a half year ago.
    With tears dripping down my cheeks I choked out an almost silent Thank you."
    He said "you're welcome!" and assured me again of his prayers.
    I felt blessed, bolstered, supported, like "part of the Family."
    God bless the Corps. God bless the "Family"
  • All that, and more
    Our prayers ascend, they might seem
    insignificant or
    small
    but to one Marine or soldier, they might be
    all
    that stands between hope and despair,
    and might, with angel wings stir
    the air
    with whispered peace amidst the war.
    Our prayers might be all that
    and
    more.
